Mechanical forces Marcelli to Retire early at Lime Rock

July 25th 2010 (Dublin, Ohio) – Following a stellar performance by Kyle Marcelli qualifying the #89 P2 in the wet conditions of Lime Rock's 1.3 mile circuit, both the team and Marcelli were confident in earning a race win. Unfortunately for Marcelli, after being consistently the quickest car in class on track, a mechanical failure forced an early retirement with only 45 minutes remaining in the 2h 45 min race.

Co-driver Brian Wong started the race. Due to early contact issues, it was at the 45 minute mark of the race and under caution that Kyle Marcelli strapped in to finish the last 2 hours. Racing from the 21st spot, Marcelli brought the car up to P3 in class and P6 overall setting quick lap after quick lap. The excitement of everyone on the team as they worked towards their first race win of 2010 quickly turned to disappointment as with only 45 minutes remaining the #89 suffered a mechanical exiting the last chicane. Marcelli was able to roll the car into pit lane before being forced to retire.

"We had a great car all weekend, qualifying was one of those sessions where it was a wet yet drying race track and you just knew the last lap was going to be the quickest. As for the race, traffic management was most crucial. It was very rarely that you get a clean, fast lap, so it was significant to move through traffic as quick as possible. It's a shame as a good result was definitely attainable." Said Kyle Marcelli.

August will be a busy month for Marcelli as well as the other teams and drivers in the American Le Mans Series. Next on the schedule is Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course located in Lexington, Ohio. The race will be aired August 15th at 12:30 EST on CBS Sports.
