(Barrie, Ontario) June 7th 2011 – Intersport Racing’s driver Kyle Marcelli, piloting the #89 LMPC is the lone full-time Canadian in the American Le Mans Series. Since making his rookie debut into the American Le Mans Series with Intersport Racing in 2010, the 21-year old is becoming quite familiar to the front row of ALMS. Marcelli having been appointed to qualifying the car for eight races thus far, he has qualified the Intersport entry on the front row of the grid for five of those eight races. While that statistic is impressive on its own, for Marcelli it’s just not enough as he’s still highly anticipating his first series pole position.
“It’s getting to be a little bit frustrating, laughs Marcelli. The Intersport Racing team and I have worked very hard together to develop a good race car and we’ve certainly showed that we can race upfront in a series that’s filled with competition from around the globe. More times than not we have qualified on the front row yet all second place missing out on the pole by only a fraction. Certainly, our first ALMS pole position is highly anticipated.” Says driver Kyle Marcelli.
“We’ve kept very busy during the break in the ALMS schedule, the Intersport crew has been working hard in preparation for Lime Rock. It’s a pleasure working with Kyle, each race weekend we continue to make strides forward in development. We’re extremely anxious to earn our first series pole position in LMPC and more importantly to back up our podium finish from Long Beach with another great run in Connecticut.” Said Intersport Racing Team Manager, Brian Alder.
It’s been a very lengthy wait since coming off a 2nd place finish at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach back in April. For Marcelli much of the gap has been filled wearing a few different hats as he’s kept busy with sponsor events, private driver training and fitness. The American Le Mans Series gets back in action the weekend of July 8-9 at Lime Rock Park located Lakeville, Connecticut. You can expect Marcelli and Intersport Racing will recommence pursuit of their first series pole position together.
